If you’re new to beCAUSE minded, you may not know our story. Our founder, Jessica Shields, started beCAUSE minded because she was looking for unique branded business gifts that made a positive impact in the world and couldn’t find a good solution. Many items weren’t a high enough quality. Others were too generic. But with the amount of money she was spending on corporate gift boxes at the time, she really wanted to find a way to put this money to work for good. So, she created beCAUSE minded. Our passion is to create an easy way to support causes through the purchase of unique, high-quality gifts.
Today we are excited to highlight a few of our favorite companies with similar mindsets – companies who are creating beautiful products while supporting worthy causes! So next time you’re looking for personal or business present ideas, check out these social enterprises first!
7 Gift Companies Supporting Causes
1. Home Décor: Freeleaf
We love this brand who believes women are “Knot for Sale.” Freeleaf fulfills its mission of giving sex trafficking survivors hope for a better tomorrow through job training and employment. They create beautiful home décor using an ancient knotting method. Freeleaf also provides holistic care, like counseling, medical care, daycare, etc.
2. Jewelry: The Bead Project
The story behind The Bead Project is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. A war-torn community in Northern Uganda, defined by 20 years of atrocities, poverty, and desperation found a path to hope through the crafting of paper beads. The founder of The Bead Project connected the women with an Austin-based designer and consumers in the US, creating income and funding for much needed community projects.
3. Christmas Ornaments: Papillon Marketplace
During our time connecting with corporate gift suppliers, we learned that Haiti is among the poorest nations in the world. On the UN’s Human Development Index, Haiti ranked 163 out of 191 countries in 2021. Some Haitian families do not have the resources to feed their children, and thus give them up to orphanages. Papillon Marketplace exists to give these families alternatives by providing stable employment to the most impoverished families.
4. Bath Products: Franciscan Peacemakers
These lotions, bath bombs, and salt scrubs are made with wonderful smelling, all natural ingredients by women escaping prostitution and homelessness. Like with some of the other organizations on this list, Franciscan Peacemakers walks alongside these women on the long road to recovery. They also offer free housing for women working to become sober, stable, safe, and free of prostitution.
5. Winter Hats, Scarves, & Glove: Mitscoots
Mitscoots closes the gap between shelters and placement agencies and independent living for the transitioning homeless. They are based in our hometown of Austin, TX and not only give one like product for every purchase, keeping the homeless warm in cold months, but they also train and employ the transitioning homeless!
6. Facial Products: Shankara
With products like Kumkumadi Oil, Gotu Kola, and Borage Oil, these facial products are anything but ordinary! Shankara’s products are 100% natural and results-oriented, combining Ayurvedic wisdom and modern science. Plus, they give 100% of their net profits to humanitarian causes.
7. DIY Lip Balm & Soy Candle Kits: Angel’s Life
