Is your partner the rose-appreciating, fancy-chocolate indulging, plushy bear-loving type? Awesome. We love those who love in all the most romantic ways! But today’s blog isn’t for you. Today, we are covering a kind of weird topic. What do you get the non-romantic for Valentine’s Day? There are dozens of blogs (including one from us) with Valentine’s Day gift ideas. But what if your significant other isn’t into all the “normal” stuff? And who decided what normal is anyway?

I am known as the queen of practicality. Among some of my favorite gifts recently are a massage gun, a pair of Tieks, and a bright red long-sleeved running shirt. If your significant other is more practical than romantic – here are a few suggestions to make sure your Valentine’s Day gift is a success!

Choosing Great Valentine’s Day Gifts for Non-Romantics 1. Don’t phone it in

Just because your love might not be the traditional Valentine Day gift enthusiast doesn’t mean they don’t want to feel loved. They do. You just have to figure out how they will best receive that love. How they show love to you is often an indicator of their primary love language. Are they always doing nice things for you? Do they often want to spend time with you? Use those as a starting point for your gift ideation. Maybe get them a gift card to get their car detailed – taking one thing off their plate? Maybe tickets to a concert for an artist you both enjoy? The bottom line is non-traditional gifts don’t have to be boring.

Choosing Great Valentine’s Day Gifts for Non-Romantics 2. Put some thought into it

As mentioned, I am super practical, but there are some crossover gifts that are both practical and romantic. As an example, our beSERENE gift box has a towel, candle, bath bombs, natural loofahs, and a moisturizing olive oil soap. It’s got so many practical uses! But it also smells lovely and encourages your partner to take some time to relax – a very romantic gesture.

Or how about our beINTENTIONAL gift box? I’d love this gift because it speaks to my love of setting intentions for my life, but it’s also very beautiful with the colorful, handcrafted pen and the artisan mug. It’s practical, but thoughtful!

Choosing Great Valentine’s Day Gifts for Non-Romantics 3. Buy them something they wouldn’t buy for themselves

My husband recently got me a pair of Tieks. If you aren’t familiar, they are high end ballet flats. I had tried some on and loved them, but I could never justify buying a pair for myself. That’s what made them such a great gift! They are hot pink and practical(ish), and not something I’d normally treat myself to.

Other ideas might be something like our beLATHERED luxury gift box. Soap is definitely practical, but your love might not purchase a box of hand-crafted soaps from all over the world for themselves. The scents, exfoliation, and moisturization of these soaps are a treat anyone would love.

Choosing Great Valentine’s Day Gifts for Non-Romantics 4. Add a card

Even with a practical partner, you can sneak in some romance with a nice card. Telling them why you bought them the item you did can make a practical gift so much more meaningful. As an example, the person who gifted me the massage gun told me she wanted to help my upcoming Boston Marathon training. She was so proud of me for accomplishing this lifelong dream and wanted to support me in her own way. Now this practical gift is so much more meaningful!

5. Give yourself a little time

Sometimes thoughtful gifts take a little more time to find and produce, especially if they are customized. Don’t wait until the last minute when your best ideas may not make it in time for the big day! Shopping small can also give you more unique gift options, but sometimes smaller companies need more lead time than Amazon.

We hope you’ve found these tips from a self-proclaimed queen of practicality helpful! What about your partner? Are they practical, romantic, or both?
